Philip Edmonds – or Phil as he is known by everyone apart from his mother – was born in the UK and moved to Switzerland in 2005. Phil graduated in Mathematics from Oxford University and spent the first six years of his career working for IBM in systems engineering and marketing. He then moved into commodity trading, specialising in steel and raw materials for the steel industry, which he has been doing since 1989.
Phil has always been an environmentalist, but working for so many years transporting steel around the world has given him a close-up view of the need to change the way we do things – steel and shipping being two of the largest carbon emitters. He firmly believes that Biochar can save the world!
Phil lives with his partner and daughter, whilst his three sons have already fled the nest. When not trading steel or building biochar plants, he enjoys travelling, cooking, gadgets, sports (watching and playing), particularly skiing and cycling, and of course time with family.
